Waldon, Fairview, Okla., got into this product area three years ago when it purchased the rights to the LoDi model 815. The 815 was discontinued and replaced by a newly designed model LB25, which Waldon has been selling for the past two years. A new model, the LB30, was just released this past January and will eventually replace the LB25. Just how far will this market go? Well, consider that I thought the market would pass the 6000-unit mark about two years from now, rather than in 1999. This time, I believe demand will continue to grow through the next three or four years, with industry sales reaching an annual level of about 7000 units during that time. Another important thing to consider is minimum hub thickness, which is calculated based on such factors as locking device outer diameter and surface pressure. The hub should be thicker than this value to prevent excess stress and early failure. Locking device manufacturers typically provide this formula.Andrew/Whittet-Higgins: Consider all costs of the assembly rather than the individual costs of each component.Keith/U.S. Tsubaki: Go keyless.
